The Daytona 500, the premier racing event in the sport, will be moved to a shorter track in 2018.NASCAR announced in February that it is moving the Daytona 500 from Daytona International Speedway to Charlotte Motor Speedway, a move that was widely criticized.
The new track is expected be completed by the end of 2018.
The news came just days after NASCAR announced the hiring of former NBC sports analyst Eric Schmitt as a special advisor to the sport’s governing body.
